A few years back, I designed a variable plate capacitor with assembly details. This was to do some experimental testing with different capacitance of fluids. The plates are spaced with springs to keep the plates separated. There is a plastic cord to make the adjustments when the knob is turned. The body parts are clear acrylic and the metal conducting parts are stainless steel. Due to the variable plate system, testing the capacitance could be useful when tuning to custom inductor coils.

Attached are pictures of the overall setup. I’ve included a ZIP file of the PDF drawings for the custom parts and the assembly build. The HARDWARE is Inch Standard based and PIPING is NPT (National Piping Tapered).

NOTE: This design has not been constructed, so the final build may need tweaking to get the plates to work as intended. Use at your discretion!
